My name is Craig McGuigan and I am a passionate powerbuilder. My goal is to be the biggest and strongest guy in town.

Bigger Stronger Smarter is my forum dedicated to informing and educating people about becoming bigger, stronger and smarter. If you want to get bigger, stronger and/or smarter then I can help you.

A bit more about Craig

Craig started powerlifting as a 17 year old in 1990. He adds that, “I was doing weights to gain strength and size for League. I weighed just under 60 kg when I first ventured into the gym. It wasn’t long before I fell in love with the gym. I remember watching a group of powerlifters train one day. I liked the idea of lifting as much as you could for one rep”

Craig entered his first powerlifting competition in March of 1991 at a bodyweight of 65 kg. “I broke the New Zealand Junior Squat and total record that day. I represented NZ at the Junior World Champs in 1992 and 1993 in which I won a silver medal in the deadlift and a bronze medal in the squat.”

Once Craig graduated from University, competitive powerlifting took a back seat as he concentrated on his career as an accountant. “I have never stopped training and love lifting big weights. I call myself a power-builder these days. I am currently focused on bench pressing 227.5 kg (500 pounds) raw. My goal is to reach a bodyweight of 120 kg and total 950 kg raw.

Craig established Eastside Barbell in 2007. In the early stages, this was a dedicated facility for powerlifters. Since then Eastside has evolved and is now a strength training facility for powerlifters, bodybuilders, strongman competitors and other sportspeople who want to become stronger. Our goal is to become the number one strength training facility on the country.
