Recovery –

Recovery is an all important word in our game. I don’t just mean recovery between workouts but also between sets. I found this article in the NY Times which challenges some traditional views.

It is a difficult area. I tend to think about things a lot more now having had some enforced rest with injuries. But that aside I also know that after a few weeks of going hard that I need to back off or change things. Mental fatigue also sets in and that is every bit as damaging to progress.

The great thing about programes like 5/3/1 is the deload element. This enforces a back off at least.

It is a matter of getting smarter. Being productive when you train and then resting and coming back stronger mentally and physically.
